Climate change poses unprecedented challenges to rural women farmers in Kenya. Unpredictable rainfall patterns, prolonged droughts, and extreme weather events threaten food security and livelihoods. Our Climate Smart Agriculture Training program equips women with the knowledge and skills to adapt to these changing conditions while building resilience in their farming systems.

Program Overview

This comprehensive training program focuses on sustainable agricultural practices that increase productivity while reducing environmental impact. Women farmers learn to select and cultivate drought-resistant crop varieties, implement efficient water management systems, and use climate information to make informed farming decisions. The program emphasizes practical, hands-on learning with demonstration plots and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.

Key Activities

Participants engage in intensive training sessions covering climate-resilient crop varieties, water conservation techniques including rainwater harvesting and drip irrigation, soil health management through organic practices, agroforestry integration, and weather forecasting tools. Field demonstrations and farmer field schools provide practical experience, while ongoing mentorship ensures successful implementation.

Expected Outcomes

Women farmers gain the confidence and capacity to adapt their farming practices to climate variability, leading to increased yields, improved food security, and enhanced income. The program has demonstrated significant impact, with trained farmers reporting 45% average yield increases and 30% reduction in water usage. Beyond individual benefits, participants become climate champions in their communities, spreading knowledge and inspiring collective action toward sustainable agriculture.
